Easy to Set & Release
Simply bait the trap and then pull back the Easy Set® lever to set it with a single hand. Problem racoon was opening the one- way pet door and eating cat food! Purchased the trap at Lowes on my lunch break & set up at 6pm. Baited with same cat food. Set up took ten minutes and was very simple. By 8:30pm we had a live catch, released in the forest far from people by 9:30pm. Worth every penny.
Happy to have my kitty back... July 18, 2009
My kitty got out and was gone for 7 weeks. I was finally able to locate her about a mile away. I spent the entire evening trying to lure her close enough to me to grab her. But, she was very scared and acting somewhat feral. I figured I need a better mouse trap.
So, I purchased a Havahart® Large Collapsible Easy Set Raccoon Trap at Bass Pro Shops. I set the trap with a bowl of wet food as bait. Then, I sat and waited. I was VERY temped to hit her with the spot light when I saw her smelling in and around the cage. Eventually, I heard the delightful sound of the door slamming shut.
I transported her back home, still in the cage. And, I am happy to say she is here sitting on my lap while I type this review. I thank Havahart for helping get my missing kitty back home with the use of their product. I couldn't have done it without them.
VERY HAPPY !!!! April 15, 2009
Purchased your Model 1092 trap yesterday at LOWE'S. Set-up the trap last night and caught 2 cats at the same time. I was totally surprised this morning. Reset the trap and caught our 3rd cat this afternoon.
Needless to say we have been keeping the animal catcher busy. The catcher even made a comment that he was going to send people to LOWE'S to purchase the trap.THANK YOU HAVAHART.

I caught a nuisance raccoon (tipping garbage cans / entering garage through cat door)on the first day I set the trap. He probably spent several hours inside the trap but managed to force the trap door open and escaped. Inspecting the unit I discovered the door lock latch was pushed up through the metal tabs at the top which permitted the door to open. I called Havahart and spoke with two very kind / professional employees who agreed to send me a new trap. Although I was very frustrated I will give it another shot. I am presuming I have a raccoon on steroids and hope to catch him on the next attempt. Seems like a great product and great employees.

This trap is quite good. I've lost one animal because of the major flaw that I observed ... sometimes the door does not fully seat upon collapse.
This is an unfortunate flaw but it can be overcome with patience.
1. First, add minimum bait, do not set your trap initially. Let the targeted critter come and go as s/he pleases to feed on the bait that you have left.
2. Then add a little more bait on the entrance of the trap with one or two bites to entice the critter to move more into the trap enclosement.
3. Make sure that the greatest enticement is well withing and center of the trap just beyond the "spring plate" so that when the critter steps upon it ...the open door will shut fully.
4. I've experienced some flaws with the trap door not fully closing and the animal being able to exit without harm.
5. This is a flaw of the trap and can be overcome by continuing to open the trap door again and setting it not to activate for more days/nights.
6. Then reset the door to trap the animal.
7. Most animals that escape will more than likely think that they can get out again if the trap door does not initially clolse and lock as it should do.
8. I trapped my second opossum by resetting the trap with additional apple pieces after the same opossum had triggered it the night before but had managed to escape because the trap door did not fully latch shut tight. Because s/he was able to leave so easily it went back the next night and was caught secure.
9. I remember s/he bumping against the the trap door after it closed behind, relentlessly, off and on for from 5:00 A.M. to past 9:00 A.M.
Because the opossum was able to simply push the trap door open [due to expressed malfunction] the poor critter thought it would be able to do so again!
I took s/he to the woods over ten miles away and released s/he to be reunited to s/he's mate released one and one half week before at the exact same location.
can't set the trap June 09, 2011
I purchased the trap to get my cat that has been gone for 2 weeks. It was in one piece but I can't figure out how to open the door. I went on line to try and get more info. The door WON'T open on either end. Is it locked somewhere?

I recently purchased a large, easy-set set trap (#1092) from Havahart after reading numerous reviews on their website. I have had a possum or racoon in my backyard for more than 5 years and finally could not tolerate picking up the garbage cans every morning. When the trap arrived I opened the carton to find the trap damaged, but with a bit of wire bending, simple assembly, and testing, the trap seemed to be functioning properly.I set the trap and after the second night found the trap door shut, the bait gone and an empty trap. The bait was placed deep into the trap per recommendations on the website. Is the animal too big for this trap? Footprints are impressive!

Thank you for taking the time to submit your online review of the Havahart® Large Collapsible Easy Set® Trap (model 1092). We are sorry to hear that you have not yet seen the desired results from the trap that you purchased. There are several possibilities as to what could be causing these issues.
If the raccoon is large in size, part of its body may be holding the door and preventing it from locking shut and allowing it to escape. You can try baiting a piece of PVC pipe and hanging it inside your trap, just above the bait pan. This will require the critters to maneuver directly over bait pan ensuring they will trip the trap door shut.
It is also possible that the damage received in the shipping of the trap prevented it from working properly. This trap should have arrived in good condition, you should not have had to make any adjustments to the trap, other than the normal assembly of this collapsible trap. We apologize for this and would like the opportunity to make this right. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-HAVAHART (1-855-542-8242) so we can work with you.
Purchased Model 1092 last week to deal with raccoon problem.
First encounter: Found cage upside down with trap door closed and bait gone. Staked cage to ground with rope & rebaited.
Second encounter: Success, but the animal had bent the U-device that secures the back of the cage and two clips beyond repair to the point the back had to be wired to prevent escape before the cage & animal could be moved. In it's struggle, the animal also destroyed the tie-down rope.
Third encounter: Back now wired closed, cage tied down to concrete slap with cable and bait placed well to rear of trip plate. Result -- bait can empty, trap door closed and no animal!
Fourth encounter: Same setup and result as #3.
The closed-door empty-cage events are troublesome. I can't determine whether the door is failing to latch when tripped or the animal is able to get it unlatched by repeated jiggling. The tie-down cable is not interfering and door seems to latch properly in testing. The rear panel securing arrangement is a vulnerability.
