Safer® Brand Diatomaceous Earth
Why is Safer Brand Ant and Crawling Insect Killer the best product for eliminating bed bugs, fleas, ants, earwigs, and other crawling insects?

The Safer® Brand Ant and Crawling Insect Killer utilizes diatomaceous earth (AKA silicon dioxide) and a powerful bait formula that kills insects two different ways, by ingestion and/or dehydration within 48 hours. Works indoors and outdoors when kept dry. Comes in a 4 lb. resealable bag for convenience and easy storage.
This organic pest control formula is ideal as a bed bug killer or for killing ants, earwigs, cockroaches, silverfish, crickets, fleas, millipedes and centipedes. This product bears the prestigious OMRI®-listed seal as well as the USDA National Organic Program compliant for use in organic gardening seal, certifying this product is organic.
Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is a dust-like product that contains the crushed fossilized remains of diatoms. The dust is ingested by the bed bug or other crawling insect, or as the insect crosses through the powder, the DE will cut their exoskeleton, causing them to dehydrate and die. Insects cannot develop a resistance to it since there are no chemicals to which they can build up an immunity. Diatomaceous Earth is effective as a bed bug killer, flea killer, and crawling insect killer.

But BEWARE.... all Diatomaceous Earth is not the same.
Safer® Brand Ant and Crawling Insect Killer Powder with Diatomaceous Earth is made from a patented formula containing amorphous diatomaceous earth, known as silicon dioxide. This particular type of Diatomaceous Earth is derived from fresh water sources and is NOT the same as Diatomite DE which can be derived from unnatural sources and has been linked to cancer. You can shop confidently, knowing that Safer® Brand Ant & Crawling Insect Killer is OMRI® listed and contains Amorphous Diatomaceous Earth

Safer, your product has saved my sanity! I'd been getting itchy spots for over two months, but I thought it was a spontaneous case of hives. Imagine my horror when I spotted a nasty little insect on my bed and finally put two and two together. Bed bugs! For two weeks after I figured it out, I don't think I slept through a single night. I kept waking up at 3 a.m. thinking I felt bed bugs biting me. And the worst part is, it wasn't my imagination!
Although I'd heard of diatomaceous earth, I resisted trying it because it sounded messy - so I opted for sprays, vacuuming, and some strange methods involving duct tape and Alka Seltzer. None of that worked at all, so I sprung for the DE. I dusted it all over my bedroom, mess be damned, and even wiped some on the sides of my mattress and box spring. On the first night and the next morning I was pretty bummed, because I saw some bugs and they weren't dying! By the next night, however, the magic had kicked in. I didn't see a single live bedbug and got a good night's sleep for the first time in forever.
Now it's been a week since I put down the DE, and I haven't been bitten in days. I'm still holding my breath (and I haven't dared to clean up the DE yet) because I know bed bugs are tenacious little critters - but so far so good. I can also attest that the DE hasn't bothered my cat at all.
In conclusion, don't expect DE to be an instant killer, but hang in there and it'll work like a charm! Your stuff will be dusty for a while, but it beats prowling around like a sleep-deprived maniac with a vacuum and a spray can - and still not getting most of the bugs. Safe, cheap, effective, and a total life-saver.

I used to buy this product at Lowe's but they no longer sell it. With the very hot, dry weather we are having problems with insects getting into the house seeking moisture. I put DE on around the windows outside and cabinets under the kitchen and bathroom sinks, plus in certain other places including the garage. Also, across the driveway in front of the garage door. Very effective. Bugs walk through it and die afterwards. No poison is involved! What more can you want? :-)

I have tried everything Lowes and Home Depot offers. This is the first prouduct that works. I spread the prouduct outside, around my perimeter and the ants stopped coming in the house.

I recently found 6 bedbugs on my mattress pad under my fitted sheet. I read they multiply rapidly and can crawl into tiny crevices to lay eggs. OMG! Well I used a paint brush dipped in Safer's D.Earth dust to apply and encircle every furniture leg where it met the floor. I also used a dollar store squeeze bottle to puff the DE dust into all the crevices along the baseboards and under sofa pillows . I also sprinkled the DE dust across threshhold in case those nasty bugs would try to find new feeding areas. I also vacuum and steam clean my mattress and bedframe and encased my mattress with a special BB protector cover and bought white sheets to check for BBs. Low and Behold, I have found no bedbugs in my bed since I used Safer's DE. I am also treating my sofas and have found only 2 dead ones. This is a great natural alternative to poisons. Hooray!

I read about this powder some months ago about uses for bedbugs. Well my son has been battling those things on and off for 2 years now and I suggested he try this. It has been a wonderful, wonderful powder that has been very effective for the pests. I will recommend this to everyone who has tried expensive pest control companies and found that it was just money down the drain. HOORAY FOR THE NATURAL POWDERS.

This product is the best. I wish you carried it in the stores. I am sure more people would use it. This year has been terrible with ants and I have tried everything. This got rid of the ants that were eating my trees within two days and it is SAFE. That is the best thing, that it contains no chemicals. Highly recommend it.

Our yard was positively infested with fleas and earwigs. I was having to bathe my dogs every day. I dusted the whole yard with Diatomaceous Earth and in two days the fleas and earwigs were almost gone. By the end of the fourth day I had to look for fleas on my dogs. Great product for all natural flea control. Thanks!

I was looking for something organic to get rid of some ants that popped up out of nowhere in my yard and some inside the house and it worked great.

I really don't know how or when it happenend, but I awoke one fine day to find my lush garden completely over run by Earwigs! I used a flashlight for 2 nights and hand picked them. Not even a dent did I create. That's when I found Safer brand Diatomaceous Earth at the local D&B Hardware store. I sprinkled it everywhere, on the ground, after cleaning all plant debris away. That night, I went out with a flash light and looked and looked and looked but I could not find one Earwig! What concerned me was that I couldn't find one dead one.
Well, the next morning I went out to investigate. I started to poke around here and there and when I lifted some cabbage leaves, Lo And Behold, earwigs by the tens and twentys on higher ground and hanging on for dear life! They would not walk over the Diatomaceous Earth!
I got my shop vac and went to sucking them up by the hundreds! Now, I only see one or two Earwigs here or there walking around "Dazed And Confused."
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! GOOD STUFF!!!!!
THANK YOU!

For natural things, I tried Boric acid which the ants walked right through. Vinegar, which the ants walked around. Ant hotels, didn't work (but my dog seemed to like them, he's ok, but that's cause he's 100 lbs). I put this stuff down the crack they were coming through and after 24 hrs they were finally gone.
I read this is good to spread in your yard for fleas, going to try that next. A man said keeping his yard wet kept the fleas down too.

I purchased this product as a inside the home pest control. I did not want to hire a professional. I sprinkled this stuff where the carpet meets the walls and around vents, doors, and outlets. A couple of days later I found insects of all types dead in random places. I simply vacuumed them up. It does not kill them immediately but sure enough should an insect come in contact with it, it is an automatic death sentence. I only used a tiny bit for a rather large bedroom. This stuff is visible on carpet but vacuums up easily leaving no trace. I find this product much more beneficial compared to insecticides that are potentially health hazards.

I live in North Florida and last season our entire neighborhood was overrun with fleas. So, this year, I was not looking forward to another season of rolling up my pants legs before heading out to the car. I researched like crazy and had read about DE but have been very skeptical. Then, about two weeks ago, the temp hit 80 degrees and fleas took over my garage. I couldn't do laundry but that a dozen of the littles SOBs would swarm my legs.
Last night I arrived home from work and needed to go into the garage, but had a sinking feeling, knowing what awaited me. Hartz has a spray that works really well, but it is a poison and I can't soak everything in it. So, I hopped back into the car and drove to Home Depot. I returned home and readied myself: shorts, tank top, flip flops and with a flour sifter in hand, I marched in. They attacked me immediately. With one hand I was bent over dusting the floor and with the other I was scraping off the little buggers. I know it says that it can take up to 48 hours to work but I was so curious that I attempted to martyr myself for the cause this morning and dared to head out into the garage and act as guinea pig.
And there I stood.
And stood.
And not a SINGLE FLEA hopped on.
I switched locations. Still, none.
I switched locations again. Still, none.
I don't know if it's just good luck the first time out and whether it will work as well in other areas but I am genuinely excited to try it further. In fact, I'm going to drag out my lawn spreader (the drop type) and do my entire yard. And, I'm going to sprinkle it in doorways and window sills.
If this stuff works, I'll be spreading the word around my neighborhood like wildfire!

This is the best product that I have found to get rid of earwigs from our garden. You do have to keep up the application, but it's an organic product that you can feel safe putting on your fruits and veggies in your garden.

This was absolutely worthless on ants in the yard. They just burrowed down and came up right next to the old pile. Back to the evil poisons that work.

| We are sorry you were not satisfied with this product. Safer® Brand Diatomaceous Earth - Bed Bug, Ant and Crawling Insect Killer (model #51702) works great for indoor ant infestations. It can also be used outdoors around windows, door frames, and sills, and outside of entrance ways where ants are found. If used in your yard the product is subject to moisture. If Diatomaceous Earth comes into contact with any type of moisture (rain, dew…) it will immediately become ineffective. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-7-ORGANIC (1-855-767-4264).
