Amazon Review, An outstanding feeder July 18, 2013
Reviewer: Gr8 Santini
It's easy to fill and holds a large amount of wild bird seed. The smaller birds flock to it and you can almost see the seed moving down. Well worth it. Squirrels have given up on it.
Amazon Review, Very strong! June 14, 2013

The bears have destroyed almost every feeder I've purchased in the last 10 years. Since I bring my feeders in each night, they haven't gotten a hold of this one yet. But if and when they do, I believe it will stand up to their attacks. It's built VERY sturdily; the wire encasing it is very heavy gauge. I'm really happy with it!
Amazon Review, The BEST birdfeeder I have ever used June 03, 2013
Reviewer: Patty Kaye
I bought one of these feeders about 6 years ago at a home improvement center (at a higher price than here on Amazon), and it quickly became my absolute favorite of the many birdfeeders I've bought or made through the years. It's so easy to fill. You just hang the feeder and then simply twist open the bottom and slide out the plastic cartridge to fill it. No stool or ladder needed. It holds LOTS of seed...the package says 4 pounds. There are 12 openings, and I've definitely had a dozen birds perched on this feeder at one time. I like to put sunflower seeds in to half full and then a mixed seed in to the top. That way I can attract different birds at the same time.
The exterior cage design gives lots of area for perching. The squirrels still climb on this one and dig for seed, but they aren't able to reach the seed as easily and can't dump and spill the seed like they do on so many other feeders.
The metal exterior cage and plastic seed holder are very durable and can withstand years of harsh Minnesota winters, daily acrobats by the squirrels, and tug-of-wars with the local deer. The ONLY thing that finally took it out was the second time it was ripped down, shaken, and rolled by the black bear last fall. I salvaged it the first time, but he finally managed to dig the plastic tube out and break its seam on the second try. The exterior was still totally intact, but I decided not to bother trying to fix the plastic. After all, it had served me well for six years.
I can tell my birds have missed their feeder. Not nearly as many came to my "substitute" feeders this winter or spring. A couple of weeks ago I went on the hunt at each of the local home improvement centers and hardware stores for a replacement with no luck. Fortunately I found it here on Amazon. You won't be disappointed with this feeder.

This feeder looks nice and is easy to fill. After receiving the first one I had to order a second.
Amazon Review, Great feeder! April 02, 2013
I bought this mostly to keep the bigger birds off. Works pretty well. Holds alot of food. Worth the money.
Amazon Review February 16, 2013
The Perky Pet Birdfeeder from Amazon.com more than lives up to its promise, it exceeds them. It is lightweight but large enough to hold lots of birdseed, it is well constructed and attractive, best of all it's design keeps the pesky squirrels from eating all the food we put out to feed the birds.
Amazon Review, No more squirrels!!! January 18, 2013

This is a great feeder and the birds love it because they don't have to share a thing with the squirrels, chipmunks, nor any other animal.

I bought this feeder to prevent the Blue Jays from eating all the black sunflower seeds that I had out for the cardinals and finches. It works well.

sturdy, well-built, attractive feeder for small birds. We live in the northeast and have several bird feeders, including two of these.
- attracts small birds, like chickadees, nuthatches, titmice, juncos, finches. also the occasional small woodpecker. - sturdy, well-built, easy to load (from bottom) and easy to disassemble and clean. - design is simple and elegant, not a lot of moving parts to clean or manage - price-point is reasonable compared to similar feeders - Wire cage around hopper allows birds to land on feeder at various points - not just at single perches. - Hopper is large enough to last several days - you don't have to refill as often as you do with small-hopper feeders that are narrower in diameter. - Nice (for us) red color. Metal parts are covered with plastic so they don't rust.
- Isn't squirrel proof (but no feeder is, IMHO). - can attract too many sparrows, who hang out on the wires and discourage other birds from landing. - Perches are too small for larger birds such as cardinals, grosbeaks, and jays.
We suggest you fill with sunflower/black oil sunflower to attract the smaller seed-eating birds. And if you use sunflower, avoid hanging this right above a place where you're trying to grow plants or lawn because the spent sunflower seeds/shells inhibit plant growth (google allelopathy if you're curious about how this works).
To discourage squirrels and enhance your bird-watching fun, consider hanging one of these from the eaves outside a second-story window, where you can view the birds up close and squirrels are unlikely to be able to get to it. Our cats love watching the birds out the window in the winter, and we don't have to worry about them actually hunting the birds. ;-)
A DEFINITE YES!!!! January 19, 2012
I have had two of these and am getting ready to order two more. Initially, the squirrels loved my wild birdseed until they experienced the CAYENE PEPPER! Mixing Cayene pepper with your seed IS the key! They stuff their mouths full of food and THEN it hits them. They can't move fast enough to the birdbath going for the water, which only makes it worse. They soon learn their lessons! I love these feeders! They hold the most food ever and do not die like others! I keep them out year-round and I live in North Carolina. Thank you!
Easy Feeder November 25, 2011
If you have a feeder that hangs higher than you can reach the hook, this feeder is perfect. You just grab the bottom of the feeder and turn it to refill. I love it. I don't have to climb on a deck chair to take it down to unhook it like I do for other feeders.
Best for birds as well as squrrels September 12, 2010
This feeded will allow the squirrels to eat right along with birds but the squirrels can not get to the feeder and destroy it. Best feeder I have found in a long time. Everybody enjoys it.

Wire cage is solid, but the plastic insert that holds the seed is a little flimsy. I suspect that it will only last 1 - 2 years. Not bad for the price, but don't expect to be thrilled.

We had a similar one a few years ago. It's not totally squirrel proof but the squirrels have a hard time getting to the seeds. It's one of the best and affordable feeder available. I would recommend this product.
great feeder December 10, 2011
I think this is a great feeder. I have had mine for three years. what I need now is a replacement plastic seed holder as the current one is cracking from sun damage. I don't like to waste things and would hate for the thing to be thrown away.
Don't buy March 06, 2013
I bought this feeder and three days later the squirrels busted a hole in it.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your online review of the Perky-Pet® Squirrel Resistant Easy Feeder (model 102). We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear that the feeder was damaged.
Squirrels can be very persistent and sometimes a more holistic approach is needed to deter them. You may want to try placing or hanging your feeder on a pole that is 10 feet away from the nearest tree, fence or launching place making sure it is at least 5 feet above the ground. Also adding a squirrel baffle above and or below your feeder is very effective in preventing squirrels from gaining access.
Please keep in mind that your feeder is covered by a one year warranty. Please do not hesitate to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) for additional assistance.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Does not deter squirrels! December 26, 2011
Squirrels easily reach through the cage to the seed ports. They take over this feeder within hours of putting it up. Very, very disappointing and a waste of money.

Thank you for taking the time to submit an online review for the Perky-Pet® Squirrel Resistant Easy Feeder (Item Number: B102). We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear about your disappointment.
The benefit of the caged style feeders is that they prevent squirrel damage. The wire cage provides protection for the seed ports so that the squirrels cannot chew the ports thereby destroying the feeder. Don’t forget, your feeder is backed by a one year warranty.
It is important for us to understand the trouble you experienced in detail. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) so we can help. We look forward to working with you!
Although it looks like it is squirrel proof, it's not. All the squirrel has to do is hang on the outside metal cage and stick his paws through the holes and eat all the food. I am very disappointed.

Your feedback on the Perky-Pet® Squirrel Resistant Easy Feeder (model B102) is appreciated. Battling squirrels can be a never ending battle for many back yard birdfeeders. In most cases a caged feeder like the Easy Feeder is best for minimizing the damage a squirrel can do to feeders. There are a few things you can do to prevent squirrels from accessing your feeder. Squirrels can jump up to 8 feet horizontally try hanging or pole mounting your feeder at least 10 feet away from the nearest tree, fence or launching area . Squirrels are also able to jump 4 feet vertically so you will want to make sure your feeder is 5-8 feet off of the ground. Adding a squirrel baffle is also an effective deterrent. Baffles can prevent the squirrels from stretching down from a tree branch and stealing food.
I purchased this feeder because it would be easy to clean and looked well constructed. I first tried using this with a "no waste" seed mixture. It replaced a large feeder I had used for years. It was hung near two other feeders, one with thistle and the other with hulled sunflower seeds. The birds barely gave it a look. So I dumped the "no waste" back into my old feeder and replaced it with hulled sunflower seed. Again nothing but my old feeder with "no waste" was doing great business. One last try, since my thistle feeder is an upside-down feeder, I decided to try hulled sunflower seeds in the bottom of my Perky-Pet B-102 and thistle seed in the top half. Surly this would draw some attention. Wrong! The birds seem to have difficulty getting to the seeds. I rotated the cage seeking to line the feeding ports with the holes in the cage but that did not help. I'm still using my three original feeders along with the B-102 but none of the birds give it a look. Perhaps if it was winter and this was my only feeder it might work but as far as I can see, this was a waste of money.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Perky-Pet® Squirrel Resistant Easy Feeder (model 102). When setting up a new feeder it often takes time for birds to find it. Since you already have established feeders on your property you will want to remove them leaving only your Easy Feeder in place until the birds locate and start feeding from it.
