Now that this tri-level feeder has metal ports, it works very well. Seed is always available at the different levels, and many birds can feed at the same time. The squirrels may raid it, but they can't chew out the ports.
My best seed feederFebruary 04, 2013
I agree with the 4 other reviews. The feeder holds enough seed that I don't have to fill it several times a day like my tube feeders, especially when the weather is bad and the birds aren't able to scratch on the ground due to snow cover. All perches are always filled with as many birds waiting to land. I can't say it is my most popular feeder since all perches on all feeders are always full with birds waiting in line to land.
I don't have a squirrel problem but since I completely disassemble and hand wash all the parts every spring before I put the feeder away for the summer I like the idea of as many metal parts as possible. Even hand tightening the perches can crack the plastic after a few cleanings.
A couple of recommendations: 1. I have replaced most of the attachment nuts with wing nuts to make dis- and re-assembly easier (no tools required). I find it heasier to "hand tighten" with wing nuts. With a bit of arthritis in my hands you might consider this for us older folks. 2. The two plastic halves tend to separate, not enough that seed leaks but enough that it seems less structurally sound. I wrap a piece of electrical tape around the top and bottom to keep the pins on each half properly engaged in the mating hole on the other half. I do this before I load it with seed. 3. The green sleeves on the perches tend to work their ways of during use. I assume that they are there so the birds' feet don't freeze to cold metal when perched although they don't seem to even when the temp is 25 below zero. 4. The diameter of the cylinders that allow the seeds to fill the lower levels could be a little larger. With black oil sunflower seeds I find that I have to shake the feeder continuously or poke the seed down the tubes when filling.
Overall it's my favorite feeder from the point of view of ease of cleaning, fairly even feeding and ability to hold a large quantity of seed.

Even though it holds ALOT of seed i have to fill it every 2-3 days because the birds just love it! They fill every perch and others wait in line for empty ones!! I have owned one of these, replacing as coons and used to be squirrels destroyed them, for close to 20 years! Highly recommended :-)

Truthfully, I have never owned one of the Deluxe Grandview but have owned many, many of the regular one. Without a doubt the best feeder on the market; easy to fill, easy to clean and now, squirrel-proof!! Thank you, thank you!!

I bought this for my mom for mothers day and she loves it She had requested this brand of feeder specifically because she said that every other one she had bought, when the wind would blow, the seed would go everywhere. This one keeps in the seed and withstands the weather.

I have had this style of feeder before but it had plastic feeder ports which the squirrels quickly ate through. This one is much nicer with the metal ports. I like the fact that each level fills up so that all ports have seed.

This feeder is wonderful. It looks good in the garden and holds enough that it cuts down on my time refilling.

This is great bird feeder. The EasyFlow feature lets all 3 chambers empty at thier own rate keeping more feeding stations open then an ordinary feeder where the top feeding stations become unusable as the seeds are consumed. And with the tray on the bottom that catches dropped seed even more birds can feed at one time. The birds love it and so do I.

I like this feeder. The squirrels avoid it, which is so great. I did have to glue the plastic stand covers. I like this enough that I'm going to buy a second one - a great endorsement!

I have purchased this feeder from local stores a couple of times, because I love the design and watching up to 16 birds feeding at once. At last, the squirrels would chew on the plastic ports until they fell out. I am thrilled to see this new feeder with the metal ports. Wonder if I can purchase the metal ports separately for my old feeders.

Thank you for your online review for the Birdscapes® Deluxe Grandview Feeder (model 111MA). We are so pleased to learn that you are enjoying the metal port style of this feeder.
The three separate feeding levels of this feeder provide excellent flexibility in seed type use allowing for the attraction of a variety of birds. The ports are not available for separate purchase at this point but we are happy to hear that they are protecting your current feeder from pesky squirrels.
I've been using a couple of these for about four years in Flagstaff, AZ. The primary birds that use it are flocks of Pinyon Jays. These jays are medium sized birds (10 to 11 long with a wingspan of 15 to 18 inches). In our area they travel in flocks of 25 to 50 birds, so the multiple perches of this feeder are a great feature, but the perchs were a little too short for the jays. Also, the feeder's seams started to part due to the weight of the seed and the birds. I re-engineered the feeder by replacing the short perch bolts with threaded rod that went completely through the feeder to help hold it together and left longer perches outside of the feeder. I then used some heat-shrink tube to cover the perches. The jays love it, especially this time of year with snow all over the ground - they often have six or more birds eating at one time and a flock can empty the feeder in two feeding sessions (morning and evening). I'm ordering another one to replace one that got broken (not by a bird) - I use two so I can fill one in the garage and just swap it out with the empty one. For smaller birds, or birds that don't flock like Pinyon Jays, the feeder should be fine as is.

I appreciated on reviewers comments about needing to glue the plastic covers on the perches. Suggest this should be done at the factory. I was able to do the glueing before I loaded the seed. Since they are loose, birds could not stay on them as originally sent.

Just put the feeder up, and the finches, cardinals, and tufted titmice are getting interested, BUT The first cardinal flapped and fluttered and finally gave up. I looked closely, and the perches are plastic tubes over the end of a machine screw used to hold the perch assembly. This is fine in itself, but the tube spins on the screw - thus the cardinal acrobatics. He was trying to remain upright. It was quickly remedied with a few drops of superglue on the threads, but this could have been done at the factory, and saved me the time and the really upset bird.

Excellent feeder, the birds love it. I especially like the metal feeder inserts they are an upgrade from the plastic in the older model.
