Important Feeder Care & Instructions:

Before you fill your top-fill feeder with nectar and each time you clean your feeder it is important to do the following in order to prevent the feeder from a possible leaking issue:

1. Remove Feeder Lid
2. Remove the O-ring (the rubber-type band located around the neck of the feeder opening - see photo). The O-ring will be white, clear or red in color.
3. Lubricate the O-ring with common household vegetable oil, canola oil, etc. (this can be done by pouring a little oil on a paper towel and applying it to the O-ring or wetting your finger with vegetable oil and applying it to the O-ring).
4. Place the O-ring back on the feeder and secure the cap.

  How do you clean this feeder? I got it to work, but... July 22, 2012

I finally got this to work. I experimented using plain water so I didn't waste any nectar. The spring on the punger was not connected and it took a bit of ingenuity for me to get it attached to the tiny plastic nubbins. Also the rubberish plunger looks like a mouse ate one area. Not good quality and doubt it will last very long. But, it doesn't leak right now, so I am anxious to feed the couple of Orioles I've seen at my hummingbird feeders.
My big question is how do you take it apart and clean this unit? It came without a box (bought it here online) and no instructions for filling or cleaning.
Yes, it was on sale. But it should have been a complete item.

  attractive but leaks August 30, 2012

When initially filled all fluid leaked out. I refilled thinking I had not tightened it enough yet got same results. I would have returned it where I bought it but I had picked it up while on vacation. I looked up web site and found other had similar problems with this feeder. I don't recall seeing an o-ring and the feeder did not have instructions so will try again this evening. I noticed on the return policy I would need to pay to ship it back so if I can't get it to stop leaking tonight it goes in the trash.

  Very Disappointed August 11, 2012

I agree that this feeder constantly leaks. I have filled it approximately 8 times and only once did I not have a leaking problem. I will try oiling the seal and fill it one more time. It has not attracted any orioles even tho my neighbors have them in their yard. My hummingbirds do go to it as well as a sapsucker. Butterflies go to it also, but as soon as they come the bees do also. I'm very disappointed and doubt that I will ever try any other top-loading nector feeder again. Have had a pinch waist hummingbird feeder for about 15 years and have never had a problem with it.

  Horrible Mess!! July 10, 2012

I JUST purchased the Perky-Pet® Sundance Top Fill Oriole Feeder not even an hour ago from our local hardware store for $12.99. I was so excited because no one else had them!

Got it home, filled it and as soon as I put the lid on, nectar squirted out all over my kitchen counter! After cleaning up that mess, I tried again with water and still the same thing (over the sink this time!).

Thinking I was doing something wrong, I did a bit of research only to find out, I'm not the only one having problems with this feeder! I've even tried putting a little vegetable oil as was suggested on the rubber plunger thing and also made sure that everything was seated properly and securely. Filled with water again and still the SAME THING. This even leaks from the perches which is not a good thing either!

I was hoping with this feeder, I'd be able to keep the orioles off my hummingbird feeders, now I'm going to have to drive back to town, get my money back and order a "good" one online because no one else has them locally! And to think I almost purchased two! I am so very, very disappointed!

  not good May 21, 2012

tried to use this three times even after going on line for tips and found it wouldn't quit pouring out ports. taking back to store to get money back.

  Poor Purchase May 20, 2012

This feeder seems to leak as soon as the heat of the sun hits it. My guess, the expanding fluid and air space expands and forces the fluid past the bee-guards.

The instructions with the feeder make no mention of "oiling" the O-ring as mentioned on the web site. We will try that and see what happens. Will re-post the results.

  dissapointed May 10, 2012

I too bought this feeder because it looked better than the rest ,but was also disappointed at the leaking. And that the Orioles seemed to have trouble getting the nectar. I tried to remove the bee guards but the level of nectar was too low. It was sad to see my new orioles look over the orange globe of nectar but not be able to get at it.
I did not buy my first nectar feeder from Perky-Pets but I plan to get my next one here.

  Not Happy April 17, 2012

This product leaks...and, yes, I tried the vegetable oil on the o-ring and it still leaked out. This is the 3rd Perky Pet feeder I've purchased that has done this. Needless to say I won't be buying any perky pet products anymore.
And by the way, no where in the directions did it mention anything about oiling the o-ring.

  Piece of Junk March 23, 2012

Bought this feeder from local feed store and it did nothing but leak! I bought Perky Pet ready-to-use nectar, and used the whole container trying to fill this awful feeder. I intend to bring it back to the feed store for a refund.

  LEAKS TERRIBLY!!! May 24, 2011

I bought this feeder over another feeder because I liked the appearance of it. I brought it home, made food and filled it that night with the intentions of hanging it outside the next morning but when I got up the next morning I was shocked to find that the ENTIRE feeder had emptied out, soaked through our kitchen floor and into the basement, ruining our supply storage in the basement! I checked to see if everything was secure on the feeder (which it was), refilled it with water and hung it outside to see if it would leak again and sure enough, within a couple of hours, it was nearly empty. It appeared to be leaking from all four feeder holes. Disappointing, especially since I've been so happy with my Perky Pet hummingbird feeder... :(
