I live in the middle of Florida on the east coast and don't see a lot of hummingbirds here. However, we do get them from time to time. This feeder with it's 8 oz. capacity will be perfect. A bigger feeder here, would be a waste of nectar as it needs to be changed often. I just received this one today. I don't have any others like it and thought I would give it a try. Within one minute of hanging it outside, I had three hummingbirds hitting it. I have other feeders out but, they just don't like them.
If you have hummingbirds around, this is THE feeder! Construction is good and complete. There is nothing to assemble. Attach the hanger, fill it up and hang it outside. Can't be any more simple than that!
I love this feeder!

JUST BOUGHT MY FOURTH PINCH-WAIST September 21, 2012
Reviewer: Sylvester017
With all the mountain fires up north, we got an early migration of hummies going south last month. I don't usually see so many hummies so early but with all the fires consuming vegetation it's been driving the birds to the suburbs for food and sometimes there are up to 20 hummies waiting for turns at my 3 pinch-waist feeders, so I bought a fourth one! They prefer this 8 oz glass feeder over any plastics I had last season so I stayed with this model and neither I or the hummies have been disappointed. The bee guards on the feeder's gloxinia flowers are a blessing to keep the honey bees and wasps away without killing them and the Perky Pet AntGuard hanging over each feeder also protects the feeders from ants or flying insects without killing them. The mold can quickly form on really hot days so these smaller feeders allow fresher cleaner rotation feedings of 1:4 sugar water ratio.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are glad that you like both the 8 oz pinch waist and the Top Fill. One thing to note on the Top Fill, it is VERY important to make sure the lid is tightly secured. This creates the vacuum seal in the feeder and controls the nectar flow.

Best feeder! June 21, 2012

I have tried every hummingbird feeder around including some very decorative and fancy ones. The basic Perky Pet glass feeder is by far the best one. The hummers love it and so do I. There are often hard to find locally so I have to order them online. Sometimes bigger and more expensive isn't always better!!

I have tried many types of hummingbird feeders. The pinch-waist is the best and only type I use now. I never use nectar with food coloring and I never use soap for cleaning, only water and vinegar or water and bleach. I use a brush to get all the areas free of any possible mold. Summer is coming and the Anna's will have to share with their southern cousins. I have 3 in the winter, wrapping them with a blanket of disposable hand warmers and fleece if the weather will be freezing while I'm at work. I use 5 in spring and summer to try and keep the fighting down. Thank you Perky-Pet for the best feeder. Kent, WA
DECADES HAVE PROVEN THIS IS EXCELLENT! February 15, 2012
Reviewer: Sylvester017
I researched reviews about this pinch-waist feeder with bee guard grills on the feeder ports, and one reviewer shared they used this model for nearly 20 years! It was an amazing enough testimonial to get me to try one after struggling with other designs like small tube feeders, plastic strawberry feeders, push-pull feeders, etc (all leaked like crazy). I assumed ALL feeders were SUPPOSED to leak until I used this pinch-waist glass feeder. In December we had 100 mph wind gusts that knocked down fences and power poles, stripped roofs, and unearthed trees by the roots! The pinch-waist blew around like crazy and obviously lost a lot of fluid, yet by early morning, there was still an inch of syrup left at the bottom to feed our hummies breakfast! All other styles I used in the past would leak dry BEFORE any wind hit them! And cleaning has never been a problem with this model -- once a month a gentle nearly-hot bleach solution to soak all the parts, rinse thoroughly, air dry and done! The hummies love the big red flower ports, perches to sit on, and no bees to compete with. I have 3 of these and will get more. I like having clean dry feeders on hand every time I change out the used feeders. The big plus -- Perky Pet has available replacement parts!!!

We have been feeding Hummingbirds for years and have found this style to be the best. The bee and ant guard give our hummers a chance at nectar and the wonderful perch make it easy for the young ones to fill up when they are just learning from momma. One draw back is that they are easily torn apart by raccoons. This past year we lost all the feeders to a sweets loving marauder. He chewed up and tore apart every one. This year we will replace with the same style Perky Pet feeder but try using gutter hangers instead.

VERY WINDY WEATHER & STILL DID NOT DRIP! September 08, 2011
Reviewer: Sylvester017
Just an added note to my previous review - we had a very windy, drizzly day that made our feeder pole sway with our various feeders blowing around and the Perky Pet 8 oz glass pinch-waist STILL DIDN'T leak! Along with the Perky Pet AntGuard over the Perky Pet pinch-waist bee guard feeder, there hasn't been one bee or ant on the feeders or feeder pole. Wonderfully designed. Kudos again! Now you get my full 5-Stars rating for no leaks!

We have tried many different hummingbird feeders over the years and without doubt this is the best. Our hummers are very picky - they won't touch feeders with plastic bottles so we went to glass. They swarm around these feeders! We now have 5 in use and we have to fill them about every 3 to 4 days. [We tried the larger glass feeder and they wouldn't touch that either] This model must be very popular because they are always sold out of them! Won't use anything else now!

5-STAR REVIEWS INSPIRED MY PURCHASE August 20, 2011
Reviewer: Sylvester017
After having several styles of feeders, and some were Perky Pet, I figured that no matter what price or brand, all feeders leaked. However, after retiring two old tube feeders, I read the high reviews on this Perky Pet Pinch Waist model and bought one from a local pet store and figured it would leak too. I also have and love the Perky Pet push-pull magnolia flowers style but it leaks just a little too, and the bees swarmed the drips. But, the first hour I hung up my new Pinch Waist Glass Feeder, there wasn't one drip and I watched intently with binoculars just waiting for the first drip - nothing! While sipping, one curious hummie watched a bubble in the glass and followed it up, then returned to the perch to sip again! I chose to install the perches that came with it and I have a hummie that loves to sit and sip while others still prefer to hover while sipping. Two of the 4 plastic perches are bent/warped because they are so thin/small - also, I'm not thrilled with the wire cord style holding the top cap, but other than these two negatives, I can't fault the feeder. It's great to have the yellow bee guards in the flower ports too. It's amazing how the hummies can maneuver their beaks thru the bee guard grids. I hung the feeder up with the Perky Pet AntGuard and together with the bee guards it works to keep them away (I don't really want to kill bees) and they were annoying the hummies. Like so many previous reviewers, I will probably stay with this model if it stays dripless after a few weeks trial. I loved the push-pull feeder too for its ease of use and maintenance, but even a gentle wind unfortunately will make it sway, overflow, and drip - really a shame plus it doesn't have bee guard ports. Whereas, the heavier Pinch Waist glass is more stable and hardly seems to sway in our afternoon breezes. Even without negatives, it is hard to get 5 Stars from me about any product and I really rate it 4.5 for now. Knock on wood this will be my best economical feeder for future purchases.

I've tried a few different styles of hummingbird feeders. They seem to like this one best. I wish the glass held more. I have as many as 18 hummingbirds right now and they can empty two of these quickly. But I don't mind keeping them clean and full.

I have this feeder as well as a few others but the hummers seem to prefer this feeder over the rest, and it doesn't leak out like some of the others do! Stay away from the flat bottom feeders, the bottom fills up and the liquid is gone in no time! The glass feeders are pretty but again, especially the round ones, the liquid leaks out from the stems. If you want a great feeder at a great price that will attract your hummers then this is the feeder to get!
Oh and I just want to note that if you have never had hummers before a feeder alone will not attract them! You need plenty of colorful flowers, red and purple are best. Once your birds are established they will continue to come back year after year! Mine actually stay all year round!

Best Feeder I have found May 28, 2011
Reviewer: Rob
I have been using these feeders for the past ten years. I have 4 around my home and have given 5 away to friends and neighbors. This design has proven itself over and over again. I have found the perches are used virtually every time. I use coat hangers to suspend the feeder by the provided wire/plastic line. This coat hanger is bent in such a fashion so as to provide a perch above the feeder. I find that this provides a place where the hummers may sit for hours. I live in Los Angeles and find these feeders to required to be filled by-daily do to their use. I use a non commercial nectar made from table sugar in a 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. Maintenance amounts to rinsing completely with hot tap water. I highly recommend this feeder.

This feeder, like all the Perky Pet products I've used, is EXCELLENT. It holds the perfect amount of nectar--8 oz. Birds consume it before it has time to become spoiled, about a week. It is so easy to clean--soap and water--and disassembles/reassembles easily. Much easier to re-fill than my last, non-Perky Pet one also. Someone has clearly thought out the design of this feeder very carefully. It is as close to being perfect as a hummingbird feeder could be. The birds LOVE it.
A local favorite December 17, 2010
Reviewer: Richard
Our resident air force loves these feeders which is why there are currently twenty four (yes, 24) of them hanging in our back yard, with two others down awaiting parts.
Between the bee problem and the demonstrated preference of our friends for this model we've given up trying any others. Come last call, we will often have two birds to a perch and one hovering above them, all feeding from the same port.
To keep the ants off, I just give the wire a quick spray with cheap cooking spray, and that's good for weeks.
Other than rambunctious squirrels or clumsy humans knocking things down and breaking them, the only wear and tear item I've ever had is that the insert gets tired after a few years and won't hold everything together, but that's understandable and the replacement is only $0.56, a small price to pay to keep our guests fat and sassy. I recommend this feeder to anyone who wants a well designed, reliable and easy to use feeder.
The Best Hummingbird Feeder Ever! November 17, 2010
Reviewer: FoxGlen
This is the only hummingbird feeder that we use because of the yellow bee guards in the middle of the feeder flowers. Bees and wasps cannot penetrate these barriers. To further protect the feeder, we always hang it from an ant guard. We never have problems with insects of any kind throughout the feeding season. There used to be a 16 oz. version of this great feeder, but I haven't seen that size in years. Don't settle for any other feeder. They just can't compare to this one.
Best I've Tried September 19, 2010
Reviewer: cj
I like this feeder the best of the ones we've tried. I like the weight of the glass, and the yellow center helps keep bees and wasps out. The "top fill" type that has the base that unscrews (push-pull style) I found leaks the nectar where the pieces screw together. I finally threw it out and went back to this style.

I hadn't put out a feeder for several years, but a little green hummer kept bopping over the the patio this past week whenever I was outside. He'd hover and dart around the chimes and lights, making it obvious that he was looking for a feeder.
So ... I ordered two of these because I wanted some that were small, affordable and had a bee guard. Thanks to Amazon, they arrived very fast and my little hummingbird has already found it.
He's happy and I'm no longer feeling guilty. These are easy to fill and just the size I wanted.

I purchased one of these feeders in the spring, along with one or two others of different design. It didn't take long for this to win the popularity contest. Before we knew it, this feeder was the object of pitched hummingbird battles, while the other feeders were virtually ignored. We quickly picked up two more of the Perky Pet (what an awful name) feeders and now we have more hummers than we've had in years. Around here, it's mainly Blackchin and Rufous, but perhaps some others will notice the crowd.
The smaller capacity is an advantage. There's less chance of solution going bad, and the glass is easy to clean. We're finding that the feeders need to be replenished about every two days, so there's little chance of gumming up. A little pricier than some feeders to be sure, but the birds sure like them.

I've tried several different feeders, different styles, etc. but this is by far our hummingbirds favorite feeder! They flock to it. I have 4 of these hanging up & in August I get so many hummers that I have to fill each feeder twice a day! When I've put out other feeders the hummers ignore them. Also this is the only feeder that I know that won't allow the water to get in & dilute the solution when it rains. My sister didn't believe me when she moved in next door & I told her that she better use this feeder. She bought all different "pretty" feeders. Needless to say she didn't get much action at her feeders. She's now coverted to this feeder & they're swarming at her place too! Make sure that you order this feeder WITH THE PERCHES!

I love this feeder and so do the hummingbirds! Last year I had a different type (plastic bottle and without perches) and only had the occasional hummingbird. This year I bought one of the Perky Pet Pinch Waist feeders and I had a hummingbird in less than 20 minutes, within a week I bought two more to keep up with demand. I like the design of the feeder - the "pinched waist" gives it a little bit of character, and the size is large enough to be practical without being invasive. The three feeders are suspended by plant hooks under the eaves on the deck, which places them very close to the house. I have 10 "regulars" and several "visitors" that feed from dawn to twilight every day. I have to fill the feeders every morning - because they are empty and the little buggers have taken to scolding me when I'm not up early enough for their breakfast! I make half a gallon of nectar (4 parts water to 1 part sugar, brought to a low boil to extend freshness, per the wild bird experts) twice a week - yes that's a full gallon. I thought about getting larger capacity feeders, but this way I can do a hot water rinse of the bottle and reservoir every day and a thorough cleaning weekly. Although ants and hornets are a problem in our area, so far they haven't discovered the hummingbird feeders.
When I have company they are absolutely fascinated by the "show" they get from these cheeky little birds. They bicker (loudly), display, duel and chest bump each other to establish territory (the hummingbirds, not my guests). Some of them will share willingly with others and sit side-by-side at the feeder; some don't want any other hummers - at any of the feeders - while they are feeding. Most will perch, some will not. Most are used to me at the kitchen window and don't seem bothered when I watch them feed less than two feet away. I don't know how long the feeders will last, but for the price and the entertainment value, even if I have to replace them next year, it's been money well spent.
Perfect for yards with Bees June 04, 2012

This was my favorite feeder when I was having bee and wasp issues. It was the only feeder that didnt have them constantly on it. I prefer larger feeders, as I have so many Hummingbirds in my area, and I prefer to refill only 2x weekly. But, whenever the bees & wasps get bothersome, the large ones come inside, and are replaced by these (they do hold enough nectar for most yards).
