Havahart® Ultrasonic Basic Trainer

This hand-held Havahart® Ultrasonic Basic Trainer can correct your dog’s nuisance barking in Automatic Mode or correct other misbehaviors such as jumping on furniture and counters, digging and chewing in Manual Mode. As the name implies, the Ultrasonic Basic Trainer works by emitting a loud ultrasonic sound that, while inaudible to you, is heard by and distracts your dog.

The trainer is effective with any dog 6 month and older, and any size and breed. However, it is important to realize that only about two-thirds of all dogs will respond to ultrasonic training. Some dogs will not be distracted by ultrasonic frequencies.

Adjust to Your Dog’s Hearing Sensitivity

The high frequency correction is silent to the human ear, making the unit truly ultrasonic. With Select-a-Sound, the trainer can be tuned to one of five different sounds to match the dog’s hearing sensitivity.

Two Training Modes

The dog obedience training device can be used in Manual or Automatic mode. In Manual mode, simply press the Correction button whenever the unwanted action takes place.

In Automatic mode, the trainer can only be used to correct excessive barking. The trainer has been programmed to recognize a full range of barking sounds produced by all size and breeds of dogs. Set the trainer near your dog and when a bark is detected, the trainer will emit the pre-selected ultrasonic sound.

Works up to 25 feet away. No collar needed.

Safety Features

If the trainer is being used in Automatic mode and is triggered six times within one minute, the trainer will go into “time out” mode and cease all corrections for five minutes.

FAQs

Ultrasonic Trainer FAQs

Q:  How does the Ultrasonic Trainer work?

A:  The Ultrasonic Trainer can be used in either Manual Mode or Automatic Mode to stop your dog’s misbehavior such as nuisance barking, digging, or jumping on furniture or people.  The Trainer works at distances up to 25 feet.

As the name implies, the trainer emits a sharp ultrasonic tone.  This sound is inaudible to humans but it is heard by dogs. The sound is intended to distract dogs and thereby stop undesirable behaviors.  The Ultrasonic Trainer has 5 ultrasonic tones so you can choose the tone that is best suited for your dog’s hearing sensitivity.

In Manual Mode- To use the Ultrasonic Trainer to change unwanted behavior keep the trainer close by whenever you expect your pet may misbehave. Wait for the pet to demonstrate unwanted behavior and then immediately aim the trainer at the pet and press the Manual button in the center of the unit. It is important that the correction be administered at the same time that the unwanted behavior is being demonstrated.

In Automatic Mode- While in Auto mode the trainer is listening for barking. It has been programmed to recognize the full range of canine barks emitted by all sizes and breeds of dogs. When a bark is detected the trainer will send out the sharp ultrasonic sound that has been programmed based on the tuning of the trainer to your pet.

If the trainer is triggered six times within one minute it will go into a “time out” mode for five minutes. Corrections will not be sent out while the unit is in “time out” mode.

Q:  Will the Ultrasonic Trainer work for my dog?

A:  A percentage of dogs will not be distracted by ultrasound. These animals will require use of more advanced training techniques. Field testing suggests that approximately two thirds of dogs will respond to ultrasound training and that the Auto mode used to correct indoor nuisance barking is the most effective mode. Visit www.havahartwireless.com for other training options if you’re pet happens to be in this percentage of unresponsive animals.

Q:  How long will it take to train my dog?

A:  Consistency is key!  Anticipating the undesirable behavior and consistently using the Trainer to distract your pet will deliver the best results.  Keep your training sessions short, 10-15 minutes per session, 2-3 times per day.  And remember to retune the ultrasonic sound to your dog’s hearing sensitivity every couple of weeks.
