The Pekingese is considered a SMALL dog based on the average height and weight.

 

Males – Height: 6 to 9 inches.

Pekingese are commonly biscuit, black, black and tan, cream, fawn, gray, red and white.

 

 

 

 

Temperament

Pekingese are dainty in appearance and bold in temperament. They are courageous and confident, and they don’t back down from fights, though they rarely start them. They are not overly affectionate, and they are rather stubborn.

 

 

 

Activity Level

Pekingese are a low-energy breed with low exercise requirements. Just running around inside can be enough activity for these dogs, though they also enjoy short walks. They are considered a good apartment dog because of their minimal exercise needs.

Known Breed-Related Health Issues

The most common health concern for Pekingese is heat prostration; they can die if left outside in hot weather. Elongated soft palate, stenotic nares, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, patellar luxation, disticiasis, trichiasis and skin fold dermatitis are less common but still occur within the breed, while urolithiasis is seen occasionally.

 

 

 

Ideal Climates for this Breed

Pekingese have a low tolerance for hot climates and a medium tolerance for cold climates.
