Typical Coloring

Australian Cattle Dogs are commonly: red, they sometimes have black, blue or tan markings.

Temperament

Australian Cattle Dogs are determined, diligent workers. They stick at a task until it’s finished, and they approach each job with an all-business attitude. They are very smart dogs, and they are happiest when they have a task at hand. If they’re not given a task by their masters, they can get into trouble inventing their own.

Activity Level

Often described as “tireless,” Australian Cattle Dogs are a high-energy breed and need a great deal of daily exercise; a short walk simply won’t do!

They enjoy long runs, and getting daily mental stimulation is just as important as physical. Obedience lessons are a good investment for this breed, as they provide mental and physical activity.

Family Orientation
(good with kids, or other pets?)

Australian Cattle Dogs are great dogs for active families who do not live in apartments, which are too small for the active breed. They generally do well with children, though sometimes the dogs will nip at kids’ heels. They are friendly toward other dogs but shy with other household pets.
